Israeli air strike kills four Islamic State-linked gunmen on Golan

Israeli aircraft killed four Islamic State-linked gunmen on Sunday after they fired mortars and shot at troops patrolling along the occupied Golan Heights, the military said.

Israel has often responded to errant fire from the Syrian civil war, but exchanges of fire with gunmen on the Golan have been rare since the fighting began more than five years ago.

The militants fired at the Israeli soldiers, who were on the Israeli-controlled territory, from a vehicle driving along the Syrian side of the Golan, said Israeli military spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Peter Lerner.
The troops fired back before Israeli aircraft struck.

"The air force intervened, targeted the vehicle the gunmen were in and hit and struck the vehicle, killing what seems as four terrorists," Lerner said. He added that the militants were from the Islamic State-affiliated Yarmouk Martyrs Brigades.

Previous Israeli attacks deeper in Syria have mainly targeted supply routes and arms depots of Lebanese Shi'ite Muslim group Hezbollah, whose fighters support Syrian President Bashar al Assad's army.

There was no immediate response from the Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade. The United States designated the group a terrorist entity in June for its activities and links to Islamic State.

What's the secret to a long and happy marriage? Smile when he picks his nose, trims his toenails on the sofa and chews with his mouth open

The secret to a long and happy marriage is often described as a mix of good communication, a healthy sex life and the occasional romantic gesture.
But new research suggests that the perfect formula is rather less Mills and Boon and a bit more Alf Garnett, with the ability to overlook faults and overcome setbacks key to keeping a marriage alive.
Psychologists at Rutgers University in Newark, US, say that those who learn to accept partners who pick their nose, trim toenails on the sofa or chew food with their mouth open, are well on the way to marital bliss.

Oil minister summoned over deals with China and India- Lawmakers

Nigeria's Lawmakers summoned the country's oil minister on Tuesday to clarify details of oil and gas infrastructure agreements worth $80 billion with Chinese companies and a $15 billion deal with India.

Nigeria, which relies on crude sales for around 70 percent of its national income, is in recession for the first time in 25 years largely due to low global oil prices.

The country's oil and gas infrastructure needs updating. Its four refineries have never reached full production due to poor maintenance, causing the OPEC member to rely on expensive imported fuel for 80 percent of its energy needs.

Oil Minister Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu was in China in June for a roadshow aimed at raising investment. Nigeria's state oil company said memorandums of understanding (MoUs) worth over $80 billion - to be spent on investments in energy infrastructure - were signed with Chinese companies.

A Third Force, APC, PDP And Prospects

The realignments going on within political parties ahead of 2019.

The core of the two major political parties, governing All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is shifting- hard and fast for that matter.

The centrifugal forces within these parties are pulling relentlessly, scheming to forge, what pundits aver, might be an inter-party alliance.

Ahead of 2019, party heavy weights are not at ease, as most appear to have either being schemed out in the power play or are in the process of being cut to size.

While former President Olusegun Obasanjo has been quoted as making allusion to the emergence of the new party, Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State had last year warned that if his party failed to put its house in order, some of its members along side aggrieved APC members will form a new party to edge out the governing party.
