Obaze Insists on Serving Only One Term If Elected

The Peoples Democratic Part (PDP) candidate for the Anambra State governorship election, Oseloka Obaze, Monday in Lagos insisted that he would do a single term of four years if elected governor.
Obaze, who spoke with journalists, said other zones in Anambra had no cause to worry because he would not seek a second term in office.
He also said he chose to run against the incumbent governor, Willie Obiano of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) because the governor was not implementing the developmental goals designed for the state.
According to him, at the pace Obiano was going, Anambra would remain under-developed.
Obaze who was formerly a member of the Obiano’s cabinet said: “I left Obiano because he was not leading the state in line with where the people want the state to be.”
He said the administration of Peter Obi where he served as the Secretary to the State Government left enormous amount of money for Obiano to continue with sustainable development goals started by Obi.
”He (Obiano) did not understand the trajectory we have laid down. Half of our developmental partners have left,” he added.
He also said the governor did not give the needed commitment to education.
He explained that the administration of Obi brought Anambra State to number one in performance in National Examination Council (NECO) and West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) administered examinations but said the state had since gone back to six under Obiano.
Obaze said the state had failed to meet the United Nations’ benchmark that requires states to devout 26 per cent of their budget to education, saying that only Kwara and Sokoto States have met the benchmark in Nigeria.
