Boothroyd Admits Liverpool Duo Could Represent Nigeria

Liverpool youngsters Dominic Solanke and Sheyi Ojo may soon need to make decisions on their international futures, with Nigeria keen on for their services, the Liverpool Echo report.
Both players were part of the Under-20 World Cup winning squad
this summer in South Korea, with Solanke being voted Player of the Tournament after a particularly impressive run of form.
Both players could represent Nigeria at senior level as neither player has gained a full senior international cap for England.
Solanke joined from Chelsea over the summer before his impressive World Cup performance and has featured for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season, mainly off the bench, while Ojo is currently enjoying a season-long loan with Championship side Fulham.
England’s Aidy Boothroyd believes that a number of young England stars could be persuaded to play for Nigeria, with the African side close to qualifying for the 2018 World Cup.

When asked about the possibility of the pair switching alliances, Boothroyd said:

Nigeria are trying to get as many players as they can and you can’t blame them because we’ve got some good players. There was talk about Tammy [Abrahma], while Sheyi Ojo is another and they might still be trying, you just don’t know. It’s a hard one because I can’t guarantee they are going to play because the group is so good.

But these are lads that have played for England and have an affinity with us and a relationship. There is a pathway and I can always pick the phone up and speak to them.
