PDP SOUTH-EAST LEADERS ENDORSE ZONING OF PRESIDENCY TO THE NORTH

People’s Democratic Party leaders of in the South East have en­dorsed the PDP’s zon­ing of the Presidency to the North.

This decision, insiders say, is in the spirit of strict adher­ence to party policy and par­ty loyalty.
They also declared support for the party’s zoning of the PDP National Chairmanship slot to the South.
So far, only aspirants from the South West zone have shown interest in the office, which implies that the PDP may have in principle asked the Yoruba to produce the PDP Na­tional Chairman.
The decisions were taken on Monday at a meeting of the PDP Zonal Executive Commit­tee in Enugu, which was attend­ed by who is who in the party from the region.
Among the participants at the meeting were Second Republic Vice President and founding member of the PDP, Dr Alex Ekwueme, Governors of Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and David Umahi of Ebonyi State, who was represented by the Deputy Governor.
Others were the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu and other mem­bers of the National Assembly from the zone; the PDP’s Care­taker Committee National Sec­retary, Senator Ben Obi, Speak­ers of the House of Assemblies and other principal officers, and former governors.
There were also Chief Em­manuel Iwuanyanwu and the PDP South East Vice Chairman, Chief Austin Umahi.
In a communiqué they is­sued after the meeting, the PDP leaders pledged to support the party’s candidate for the No­vember 18 Anambra State gov­ernorship election, Mr. Oselo­ka Obaze and his running mate, Mrs. Chidi Onyemelukwe (nee Ekwueme).
The South East PDP reiter­ated its commitment to nation­al unity and also reaffirmed the party’s earlier agreement on the zoning of party positions allot­ted to the South East in respect of the forthcoming elective Na­tional Convention.

The leaders mandated PDP South East Governors, the Zonal Vice Chairman and the National Assembly leaders from the zone to liaise with other geo-political zones in the country to reach an understanding in respect of the party’s next national chairman.
