5-star OT decommits from Tennessee amid dismal season

5-star OT decommits from Tennessee amid dismal season
Tennessee just suffered another loss in the 2017 season — but this one didn't occur on the football field.

The Volunteers lost the commitment of Class of 2018 five-star offensive tackle Cade Mays, the No. 2 player at his position and top-rated recruit in the state of Tennessee according to 247Sports' Composite rankings.
Mays' decommitment from Tennessee should be plenty painful enough for Vols faithful, but it's compounded by the fact he is a Knoxville native. It comes amid a 4-5 season for the Volunteers, one of the worst seasons in recent memory, including three consecutive 5-7 seasons between former coach Derek Dooley and Butch Jones.
That Jones is on the hot seat and fans have started an #EmptyNeyland protest likely contributed to Mays' decommitment from Tennessee. He has received several offers from top-tier schools, and has interest in Georgia, Clemson, Notre Dame and Ohio State.

It looks like things are going to get worse for Tennessee before they get better. With Mays backing out of his commitment, the Vols now have the No. 11 class in the country, and third in the SEC.
