NO DECISION YET ON MY PRESIDENTIAL ASPIRATION

NO DECISION YET ON MY PRESIDENTIAL ASPIRATION
Former Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, on Monday said he is yet to decide whether to contest in the
2019 presidential polls.
He also advised President Muhammadu Buhari not to disregard the advice contained in the letter written by former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
Bafarawa spoke against the backdrop of recent endorsement and calls by the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest the presidential polls.
Speaking during an interview with journalists in Sokoto, Bafarawa said he was yet to make a decision whether to contest in the forthcoming presidential polls.
The former governor noted that though stakeholders of the party in the state had unanimously asked him to contest for the presidency, he would not declare his intentions without consulting the right people.
“I want to commend members of the PDP in Sokoto for seeing me as worthy to contest the presidential polls. I really thank them for their endorsement but the truth is, I am yet to make a decision on whether to contest the 2019 polls.
“This is something that requires wide consultation and not something I can do alone. It is only God that gives power not anybody. So, I will continue to pray for God’s guidance in my affairs,” he said.
He described the letter written by former President Obasanjo to President Buhari as a clarion call to change his style of governance in view of the hardship being faced by Nigerians.
“Obasanjo is a leader in Nigeria and what he wrote was just a mere advice. The problem is that our people see constructive criticism as opposition. The president is not perfect and bound to make mistakes.
“The letter is just Obasanjo’s opinion, what he said is the truth and we are not bound to take it. He spoke in his capacity as a former president and observed the defects in the present administration.
“So, my advice to President Buhari is to study the contents of the letter and decide whether he would take the advice or not. Buhari was given a term of four years and when his tenure ends, he will leave.”

He expressed worry at the hardship and hunger being faced by Nigerians and called on the people to vote out the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming presidential polls.
“Change is of two different types. There is change that bring prosperity and the one that only leads to misery and hardship. Nigerians feel that APC only brought hardship and hunger to the country and they are fed up.

“That is why we are determined to bring a change that will lead to prosperity. We are praying to God to give us God fearing leaders.”

He said he had no plans whatsoever to leave the PDP for APC, describing the rumour as laughable.
On the incessant clashes between herdsmen and farmers in some part of the country, Bafarawa blamed the politicians for the wanton killings.
“Politicians are behind the clashes between herdsmen and farmers and using the issue to play politics. But the truth of the matter is that the present government failed to listen to advice which led to loss of lives,” he added.
