DELTA STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY SEAT TEARS PDP APART IN ANIOCHA NORTH CONSTITUENCY

Claims of automatic ticket being given to an aspirant seeking to represent Aniocha North constituency in the Delta state House of Assembly under Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and related matters may have created bad blood among the party chieftains in the area.

Rising from a crucial meeting of the party on Monday in Issele Uku, administrative headquarters of Aniocha North, leaders and stakeholders of the party disagreed with one another on the issue of automatic ticket for an aspirant.

While many of them condemned any attempt to subvert or flout the resolutions reached at their earlier meeting, it was gathered that others were allegedly scheming for the money bags, a situation that unsettled that party resolution in the area.

Speaking with the reporters in Asaba, a leader of the party, Chief Dan Okenyi said, “We had resolved earlier that the party structure needed to be strengthened so as to give PDP an edge in the 2019 general elections. But we observed that some of us were rooting for automatic ticket for aspirant. It’s the situation that had unsettled many of us who disagreed with the automatic ticket. This situation will continue until we have all agreed with one voice.”

Another chieftain of the party, who spoke with the reporter on condition of anonymity, advised those fanning the embers of disunity by their utterances to desist forthwith.

He condemned purported attempts by some intending aspirants to drag the name of Pa Arthur Okowa, the father of the state governor, to the mud by alleging that the well-respected octogenarian had promised automatic ticket for some particular aspirants in the state in clear violation of the promise by the National Chairman of PDP, Uche Secondus to organize an all-inclusive party primaries that will guarantee a level-playing field for all aspirants.

It was further gathered that during the 2015 general elections in Aniocha North, the hitherto lingering issues surrounding the Delta House of Assembly primaries for the constituency ticket could not, and had not been resolved amicably, due to allegations that the primaries were shrouded in secrecy.

These claims brought about litigation among the aspirants after the polls.
