MAN ARRESTED OVER DOGS EATING NEIGHBOUR’S POULTRY

MAN ARRESTED OVER DOGS EATING NEIGHBOUR’S POULTRY
A 49-year-old, Paul Ajibola, whose five dogs allegedly ate up his neighbour’s 30 chickens and turkeys valued at N100, 000, was on Friday brought before a Tinubu Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The accused is facing a four-count charge bordering on breach of peace, refusal to take precautions to prevent his dogs from causing damage to lives and property of neighbour.

Ajibola, however, pleaded innocence of the offences.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Hafsat Ajibode, told the court that the incident occurred between January and July, at No. 32, Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Ikoyi, Lagos.

She said that the accused, who owned the dogs — a German Shepard, a Tamaya (South African breed) and three of their cross breed puppies — refused to erect a cage for them.

Ajibode said that the dogs had been dangerous, wild to neighbours and had been destroying their property.

She said that the dogs ate up 30 chickens and turkeys valued at N100, 000, property of his neighbour, Mr. Samaila Khalif.

The prosecutor said that the dogs had become terror to residents because of their violent barking and threats to them.

“Once it is dark, residents cannot take their garbage out or go to their generator house to switch on their generators,” she said.

The offences contravened Sections 168, 251, 350 and 394 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Tajudeen Elias, granted the accused a bail of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Elias said that the surety must show evidence of tax payment, and adjourned the case until Aug. 16 for mention.
