Liverpool are set to make a fresh bid to sign Real Madrid
attacker Marco Asensio next year, according to a reliable Spanish journalist.
Eduardo Inda told Spanish publication OK the Merseyside
giants are readying a new move for the 22-year-old after failing in a stunning
£160million pursuit in the summer.
He claimed Liverpool will make a big move for Asensio but
will wait until next summer before making their move.
Inda told Spanish publication OK: “This year, an offer of £160million
came to Liverpool’s Real Madrid for Asensio. The club said no because Cristiano
[Ronaldo] left, but Klopp is in love with the player and will go for the player
next summer.”
Good move for Liverpool?
Unable to nail down a regular starting slot at Real in the
marquee matches, Asensio has nevertheless demonstrated his potential world
class with some marvelous goals and moments of jaw-dropping trickery.
He scored 11 goals and supplied six assists in 53
appearances for the Champions League holders last season and already has 21
goals and 10 assists from 91 matches since establishing himself in the team in
2016-17.
Speculation about Asensio moving to Liverpool has
intensified in recent times, which has got swatches of the club’s support on
social media very excited.
Likely to happen?
This would be an incredibly complicated and expensive deal.
The 22-year-old is likely to generate lots of interest if he does become
available, and Real would be able to command a £100million-plus fee even though
he has not been having the best time so far this season. The magnitude of
Liverpool’s reported bid last summer suggests their interest is serious and
genuine, but it would be a long shot to prize such an exciting player from the
world’s most glamorous club.
